Today (Wednesday 9/28/11) Berean Christian Academy hosted the meet me at the flag. The whole day started at 7:00 a.m. with a few people reading their La Bible and praying. I usually get to school at around..............ok I have just been informed by my assistant Sarah that it started at 7:30 so scratch that. But people arrived earlier than that and that's what I was getting at. We then had a speaker preach to us for about 30 minutes and then we dismissed. The whole day was neat and I'm looking forward to writing another story on the subject next year.

Tim's Country Corner
The University Of Missouri has a yearly field day for agriculture students at their research center in Mt.Vernon,Missouri.There are many farmers, college professiors, and extension specialists there to teach students about topics like dairy products and beef products. Livestock are there for demostrations, career opputunities are discussed, and several other agriculture areas are covered. We went to three different presentations, Dairying, Beef Scoring, and Ruminant Nutrition.
Dairying:Milk comes in 1%, 2%, and whole milk, which is 3.25%.Whole turkey is 95% fat free, so it has 5% fat, therefore milk is a low fat product.Farmers are starting to put their cows on pasture because it is too expensive to keep them in a barn and feed silage. Cows should be bred in May so they will calve in February or March when grass starts growing.
Body Condition Scoring:Texas A&M developed guidelines to compare cattle according to their appearance in the 1980's. The cattle were scored on a scale from 1-9. Thin body types are 1-4, 5-7 is the ideal, and 8-9 are the obese cows. The best time to evaluate is 6 weeks before calving and 6 weeks after calving. Poor scoring results in diffuculty breeding, newborns are not healthy, cows need help when there giving birth, cows have lower pregnancy rate, and bull calves dont gain well, and have poor quality semen.
Ruminant Nutrition: All dairy cows have one stomach but four compartments. The name of the largest one was the Rumen, and it holds 150-200 pounds of feed and water. Cows produce 17 gallons of saliva a day to help in the digestion process. There're 3 trillion microorganisms:bacteria, protozoa, and fungi they are the ones who digest the food. They usaully put a magnent in another compartment called the reticulumn and they do that because cows tend to eat a lotof hardware while they graze. The other part of the stomach is called the osasum it is the third part of the ruminant stomach where feed is mixed with gastric juices and digestion is carried on here.
Field Day was a really interesting day, I learned a lot of information that i could use in the future

Expectations
Quote "ya'll have talent but ya'll are very very inexperienced."
Coach said that we have about a month until our first game and he continues to make us practice whether we like it or not.
Quote "don't take yourself so seriously"
Coach has just increased the practice time from 4:00-5:30 to 4:00-6:30 because, quote "we have four weeks until our first game and thats not enough time."
Now, if you add all those practices up that's about 18 hours of practice time.
(just to be clear, this was not meant bash coach or complain about practice time)

Garrulous
Yesterday Brooke and Austin went around to all a select few of the teachers and asked them if they knew what the word garrulous meant. We got some very interresting answers and they were as follows:
Careless driving, Attentive, When you are standing in a lake and there is no gar, The spanish word for the flab of skin that hangs off a cows neck, and to be without garro. The correct answer was very talkative and Mr.Nowland was the only one who got it correct. We thank the teachers who participated and we will try to do it again later this year.

Kiwania clown
The Kiwania clown came yesterday and grades fifth through kindergarten had the opportunity to watch her. I was not able to watch her but from what i hear she was very good. Lexi Keeling said and i quote "She was really funny and cool". She said her favorite part was when the clown put a small chair on her chin and balanced it for five minuites. Another child said that she was super, super, super, funny and he cant wait for her to come back. All together it was a fun time.
Vollyball!
So, last week there was a VB game in Anderson MO.; The girls arrived at the gym ready to kick butt, Unfortunately, They were mistaken. The girls lost by a decent amount for the first game, the second game went pretty well. I don't remember the scores.
